There are two main groups of asthma medications:
1
Daily medicines
  • They are also known as controllers or preventers.
  • They usually are inhalers such as puffers, or pills.
  • They help prevent asthma attacks before they start.
  • They work slowly over time.
2
Quick relievers
  • They are usually inhalers such as puffers.
  • They help relax the muscles in your airways.
  • They work fast to help you breathe — BUT should be used only when needed:
during attacks or when asthma is triggered by exercise.
